Johnson Appalled by Trump’s Lynching Comment

In response to the President’s reference to the current impeachment inquiry as a “lynching” in an October 22 tweet, Assemblyman Gordon Johnson (D-Bergen) released the following statement:

“Lynchings throughout American history were violent murders intended to instill fear in communities and subjugate African Americans.

“It is absolutely disgraceful to have a U.S. president equate their personal and professional predicament to an abominable practice that caused unimaginable terror and suffering and took the lives of many Americans.

“Coming from a man who would have no idea what that kind of fear feels like, I find his flippant use of a word that has real meaning to me and many other Americans to be highly disrespectful and callous.”
