(4th LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT) – Assemblyman Paul Moriarty on Friday welcomed the implementation of a new law he sponsored to create a permanent public school choice program to allow parents to move their children to schools located across district lines
“Public school choice is an idea whose time has come for the benefit of our children,” said Moriarty (D-Gloucester/Camden). “We’ve been talking about this for a long time and we’re finally make a long-term commitment to it. It’s this simple – for some students and schools, this program can be a step toward a lifetime of educational rewards.”
Several schools in Camden and Gloucester counties will be participating the program created under the law (A-355) sponsored by Moriarty.
“This provides real school choice for students without sending public money to private institutions,” Moriarty said. “It is a great step forward and I anticipate great results for our children.”
In total, fifty-six new districts will take part in the Interdistrict Public School Choice program in the 2011-2012 school year. Students can choose to go to a school outside their district if the selected school is participating in the choice program.
