Speaker Coughlin Names Assemblyman Spearman to Chair the Commerce, Economic Development and Agriculture Committee in the 221st Legislative Session

(TRENTON) — Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin has named Assemblyman William Spearman to chair the Commerce, Economic Development and Agriculture Committee in the new legislative session.

This newly formed committee is responsible for issues that affect urban enterprise zones, state and local development projects, corporate tax incentives and business grant programs, along with growing New Jersey’s agricultural industry and farmland preservation.

“Chairman Spearman brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this expanded committee,” said Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “In addition to his legislative record, he has done excellent work on the Camden County Improvement Authority and made indelible contributions to the economic renaissance in Camden. He will be a tremendous asset for our state’s economy and vital industries, producing good jobs and a sturdy foundation for the future.”

“I am eager to get to work on issues impacting both urban and rural areas,” said Assemblyman William Spearman (D-Camden, Gloucester). “I look forward to considering legislation that will help grow the state’s diverse economy.”

Spearman, who has been a member of the General Assembly since 2018, will also serve as vice chair of the Children, Families and Food Security Committee.
