Speaker Coughlin Names Carter as Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee in the 221st Legislative Session

(TRENTON) —Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin has named Assemblywoman Linda Carter as chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee in the new legislative session.

The Assembly Higher Education Committee handles issues that relate to colleges and universities. This includes assisting in directing policy regarding tuition aid and scholarship programs, such as NJ Stars, and ensuring success of inter-institutional agreements entered into by schools.

“Chairwoman Carter is a lifelong educator who has a record of increasing opportunity and improving outcomes for New Jersey students as they enter higher education,” said Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “Her experience as a legislator and perspective as a professional will be terrific assets.”

“This committee plays a pivotal role in directing policies that makes higher education accessible, affordable and a key driver of state prosperity,” said Assemblywoman Carter (D-Somerset, Union). “As the newly appointed chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, I am eager for the opportunity to collaborate with fellow legislators in crafting legislation that contributes to the success of colleges and universities in New Jersey.”

Carter also serves as Deputy Speaker and vice chair of the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee. She has been a member of the General Assembly since 2018.
