Speaker Coughlin Names Atkins as Chair of the Oversight, Reform and Federal Relations Committee in the 221st Legislative Session

TRENTON (January 26, 2024) — Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin has named Assemblyman Reginald Atkins as chair of the Assembly Oversight, Reform and Federal Relations Committee in the new legislative session.

The Oversight, Reform and Federal Relations Committee considers legislation aimed at reducing government bureaucracy and affecting the state’s casino and horse racing industries. The panel also works to ensure that the executive branch implements laws as intended by the legislature and works with counterparts at the federal level on laws and issues that impact New Jersey.

“Chairman Atkins brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Assembly in his first term, and it will serve the state well in his new role,” said Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “His record of service and discernment made him an excellent choice for Chair.”

“I’m eager to get to work this session, making sure we foster growth in some of New Jersey’s key industries,” said Assemblyman Reginald Atkins (D-Union). “We need to create an environment where oversight and reform does not hamper economic activity.”

In this session, Atkins also serves as vice chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee. He has been a member of the General Assembly since 2022.
