Speaker Coughlin Names Verrelli as New Assembly Labor Committee Chair

(TRENTON) —Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin has named Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli as the chair of the Assembly Labor Committee for the current legislative session.

The Assembly Labor committee oversees legislation regarding unemployment, workers’ compensation and disability benefits, workplace safety, employee training programs, family leave, and the minimum wage.

“Chairman Verrelli has dedicated his career to supporting the working people of this state,” said Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “As a union leader and an Assemblyman, he has a sterling record of advocacy and achievement. He will be an exceptional Chair of the Labor Committee.”

“I’m honored to be entrusted with the chairmanship of such an important committee,” said Assemblyman Verrelli (D-Mercer, Hunterdon). “Creating labor-focused legislation is essential to ensuring that New Jersey workers can make fair wages and have access to vital benefits like family leave and a minimum wage that’s among the highest in the nation.”

In this session, Verrelli also serves as vice chair of the Assembly Public Safety and Preparedness Committee and is a member of the Assembly Health Committee. He has been a member of the General Assembly since 2018.
